I have had mixed reviews on “Happy”! It seems to either be people’s favorite or least favorite. It’s given me good cause to live the words I preach in the song. I had a friend say, “Why are you even putting this on the record? It doesn’t fit with the other production!” And my response to him was, because it fits ME! I listen to and love a ton of different music. And when I wrote “Happy”, I wanted it to be fun and light hearted, because the lyrics really aren’t. I wanted to make fun of myself a little bit, both musically and lyrically. So I did. Plus, I love that the record goes from dark depressed Shellee in “I Want to Know” to sarcastic, silly Shellee in “Happy”. It is the perfect culmination of my personality.
lyrics
If I could only be happy
If I could only be happy
If I could only be happy all the time
Then I would make people happy
Oh I would make people happy
I would make people happy all the time
I’d be a great wife and a TV mother
I’d be the best friend
And the perfect daughter
And I would make people happy
Oh I would make people happy
I would make people happy all the time
But don’t you think for a minute
That I can do this
So don’t forget it
I’ll never make people happy
I’ll never make people happy
Never make people happy all the time
Cause I am just a silly human
Trying to figure out
What in the world I’m doin’
And I can’t make people happy
Oh I can’t make people happy
I can’t make people happy all the time
Oh I will never be happy
Oh I will never be happy
I will never be happy all the time
And I can’t make people happy
Oh I can’t make people happy
I can’t make people happy all the time
